Fun Fact!Ellison likes to use musical references to describe events and actions in his novels. In this novel he often uses the words "arpeggio," the action of playing the notes in a chord in succession, either ascending or descending, and "staccato," which means to have individual notes or sounds separated from the others, to describe the tempo of a conversation. Ellison also often references specific pieces of musical work, such as Louis Armstrong's "What Did I do To Be So Black And Blue."
